Sea turtle in P.Pesquero!

Sea turtle laying eggs in Ponta Pesquero, Boa Vista. We spotted a turtle during our night patrol and in this video you can see her in action! It is only allowed to use a red light when working with sea turtles to minimize the disturbance...

When she is done with laying her eggs, she starts covering her nest and afterwards camouflaging. It is during a covering phase when a night patrol leader can take measurements of a turtle (length and width of a carapace-shell), check for metal tags and PIT tags (microchip) and in case if a turtle doesn't have any tags they would have to be put in her flippers. Sometimes a DNA sample and parasites are taken as well. And of course, everything has to be documented and written down!
